DSA Needs Assessment Information

What is a Needs Assessment?

A confidential interview where an assessor identifies with you the support, training and equipment you need to study effectively. The assessor will write a Needs Assessment Report (NAR) that recommends your support and equipment. This report is then sent to you, the Student Finance Body and your disability advisor.

When do I have an assessment?

You can arrange for a Needs Assessment as soon as your funding body has confirmed that you are eligible for DSA support. You will need to have a letter confirming that you have a physical disability or specific learning difficulty.

Where can I be assessed?

A full list of Assessment Centres can be found by visiting www.nnac.org. For an assessment centre in Devon, search under 'P' for Plymouth and for a centre in Cornwall search under 'T' for Truro.

What happens next?

Once the Needs Assessment Report has been processed, you will receive a letter confirming the support and equipment that has been recommended according to your needs. For Non Medical Helper support you will be contacted by Claro Learning to make arrangements. For equipment for Assistive Technology Training you will be asked to contact the chosen supplier.
